Major U.S. indices remain lower in afternoon trade, with the Dow off 125 points, or roughly 1 percent.
The tech heavy Nasdaq is 0.8 percent lower, or 24 points, to 3,050.
The S&P 500 is also down 0.8 percent, or 12 points, to 1,402.
